We went on our first bike trip of the year this weekend! We lucked out with no rain and temperatures in the 60's. We got a late start Saturday because Friday night we went to the library to see movies. So we were slow to get started and packing took forever (it always does, even though we have a list of exactly what the bring). We got out the door at 12:30, and then we stopped at Thomas's lab so he could do some fly work. Thomas made us some great toasted pepperjack cheese sandwhiches, the cheese was melted. Then we set out again. We got to go through all of the cool parts of town, by the lake and the east side. We arrived at Token Creek in the afternoon. There were a lot of people there playing disc golf (frisbee golf) and people there with their dogs (they have a big dog exercise area), and a lot of people picnicking. The campground wasn't too full so we got a nice tent site. We had some trail mix that Thomas thought was the best he'd ever had (with carob chips, dates, soy  nuts, almonds, pecans, raisins, and dried apricots) and some bars. Then after we set up camp we went on a hike. There was a board walk and we also walked in the marsh. It was like walking on a sponge. At one point there was a lot of water in the trail and some sticks to try to walk on, but Megan ended up getting her foot ankle deep in water. We didn't run into anyone on that part of the trail. Thomas was delighted to find so many pupae at the park, unfortunately they had all already hatched. They were giant silk moth pupae of two species. We had freeze dried beef stew for dinner (leftover from our attempts to go backpacking a few years ago, it may have been expired so we needed to eat it) and Kahlua. We were tired early because of a party the night before, so we got into the tent soon after the sun went down. It was really cold at night, but warm in the morning.  We took our time getting ready (this was only 16 miles from home). We had bagels and cream cheese for breakfast, and hot chocolate. On the way home we stopped at Cafe Zoma, which is right off the bike path on the cool east side of town. They have outdoor seating near the bike racks and path, and we enjoyed espresso vanilla shakes.  On our way home we went past the capitol and down state street. There were a lot of people out with this great weather, and lots of flowers and even the trees are starting to get leaves on them. We biked an average of 8.3 miles per hour, and we sat on the bikes for 3 hours and 46 minutes, and the trip was 31.7 miles.
